Embark on a captivating and meticulously planned 9-hour bus tour from San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf that seamlessly blends the natural majesty of towering redwoods with the refined pleasures of world-class wine tasting. This is a journey that celebrates the unique duality of Northern California, moving from the bustling city across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge to the serene beauty of an ancient forest and the lush vineyards of the Russian River Valley.
The highlight of the first half of the tour is a visit to the peaceful and awe-inspiring Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. As you step off the bus, you’ll be instantly transported into a different world. Here, you will be able to immerse yourself in the peace, grandeur, and humbling scale of an ancient grove of coastal redwoods. You’ll stand in awe of magnificent giants like the Colonel Armstrong Tree, a majestic specimen that has stood for over a thousand years, and the Parson Jones Tree, the tallest tree in the reserve at over 310 feet. The quiet, filtered light and crisp air of the forest create a serene atmosphere that invites contemplation and wonder. You’ll have ample time to wander the tranquil trails and marvel at these colossal trees that seem to touch the sky, truly experiencing the beauty and serenity of this ancient forest.
Following your time in the redwoods, the tour shifts to the delights of the Russian River’s celebrated wine country. This region, known for its exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, offers a more laid-back and intimate tasting experience than its more famous neighbor. You’ll visit two popular and distinct wineries: the historic Korbel Champagne Cellars and the renowned Russian River Vineyards.
Your first winery stop is at Korbel Champagne Cellars, a landmark in the Russian River Valley with a rich history dating back to 1882. As you approach, you’ll be greeted by the beautiful, meticulously maintained grounds and stunning rose gardens. During your visit, you’ll take a tour of the historic estate, learning about the classic méthode champenoise used to produce their famous California Champagne. The tour culminates in a comprehensive tasting, where you’ll get to sample a range of their exquisite sparkling wines and even have the opportunity to purchase a convenient lunch at their on-site deli.
Next, you’ll visit Russian River Vineyards, a boutique winery that stands as a testament to the region’s commitment to sustainable and organic farming. Here, you’ll be greeted by breathtaking views of the rolling vineyards and a more intimate atmosphere. You’ll savor more award-winning wines, from their celebrated Pinot Noir to their crisp Chardonnay, while your guide shares stories about the dedicated winemakers and their passion for the craft. This second stop provides a perfect counterpoint to Korbel, showcasing the diversity and charm of the Russian River Valley.
The tour concludes with a scenic drive back to San Francisco, leaving you with unforgettable memories of both a natural wonder and the region’s celebrated wines. This well-organized trip provides the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

April 23, 2025 at 3:35 pmAn incredible experience! The tour took us to some fantastic vineyards in the Russian River area. The Korbel Champagnes were delicious, and we even bought some bottles from the Russian River Winery. Armstrong State Park was majestic! The trees were breathtaking and epic! It was a must-see! My only complaint was that the bus was very bouncy and made me nauseous at times. An updated bus would make the trip more enjoyable.

October 1, 2024 at 3:37 pmWe were a very small group, probably because it was Monday. The driver was very flexible with his stops and offered us many alternatives for how long we wanted to spend in the city or at the woods. Both wine tastings were good.

August 31, 2024 at 3:39 pmThe Muir Woods tour was fantastic. The duration was sufficient. The driver was very friendly and provided interesting explanations and commentary along the way to get there. We changed groups in Sausalito to visit the vineyards in the afternoon. The tastings and wine presentations were rather brief. We did not tour the facilities. The bus driver did not speak or comment on the journey as he did in the morning. Overall, it was good. We had a great day. The biggest negative was that a good majority of the group seemed uninterested and lacked manners.
