The Tour
The Crémant de Bourgogne tour at Veuve Ambal offers an immersive journey into the heart of Burgundy sparkling wine production. Located in Montagny-lès-Beaune, just outside the historic center of Beaune, this family-owned Maison has been perfecting the art of the traditional method since 1898. This experience is designed for wine enthusiasts who wish to understand the complexity and craftsmanship behind every bottle of premium French sparkling wine.

Your visit begins with a deep dive into the state-of-the-art production site. Unlike traditional dark cellars, this tour provides a unique perspective on the modern side of winemaking. You will explore the vast aging cellars where millions of bottles rest on laths, following the slow process of secondary fermentation that gives these wines their characteristic fine bubbles. The tour highlights the impressive use of technology, including robots and automatons that manage the delicate riddling and bottling stages, ensuring precision at every step of the Crémant de Bourgogne tour.
The educational aspect of the visit is enhanced by a multimedia approach. You will learn about the history of the Veuve Ambal family and their enduring commitment to quality. The tour guides you through the various stages of the méthode traditionelle, from the initial pressing of the grapes to the final dosage. It is a comprehensive look at how the terroir of Burgundy is captured in a sparkling format, respecting the strict regulations of the AOC Crémant de Bourgogne.
After exploring the production facilities, the experience transitions to a more sensory phase. You will be invited to the elegant Maison Veuve Ambal shop for a guided tasting. This session is the highlight of the Crémant de Bourgogne tour, allowing you to sample three distinct cuvées. Under the guidance of a wine professional, you will learn to identify the subtle aromas and structural differences between various blends, often featuring regional grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The atmosphere at Veuve Ambal is professional yet welcoming, making it an ideal stop for both novices and seasoned wine collectors. The large, modern shop offers a wide selection of the Maison’s products, providing an opportunity to purchase your favorite bottles directly from the source. This tour is not just a simple tasting but a complete educational experience that demystifies the production of one of France’s most celebrated sparkling wines.
By choosing this Crémant de Bourgogne tour, you are stepping into a world where tradition meets innovation. The scale of the operation and the transparency of the winemaking process make it a standout destination in the Côte de Beaune. Whether you are interested in the technical side of production or simply looking to enjoy a glass of fine bubbles, this visit offers a memorable insight into the sparkling soul of Burgundy.

July 9, 2025 at 5:04 pmThe tour is self-guided, with automatic audio through headphones. At the same time though, there are interpretive boards all along the tour path. So it is difficult to listen the audio and at the same time try to read all the information on the boards. It’s perfectly understandable why they use the headphones – it is a busy, noisy facility where the bottling is done. I’m not sure how to make this better, but it was a bit frustrating. However, the following tasting was excellent with a very knowledgable, cheerful man sharing samples of the wine with us. Overall it was a great experience
