The Tour

Experience the quintessential charm of the French countryside with a premier saint emilion wine tasting tour departing from the heart of Bordeaux. This meticulously designed excursion offers a perfect blend of viticultural education, historical exploration, and gourmet indulgence. Traveling in a small group limited to just eight participants, you will enjoy an intimate atmosphere as you journey by air-conditioned minivan to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed village of Saint-Émilion. This region is world-renowned for its prestigious red wines and its unique limestone-rich terroir, which has been producing exceptional vintages for centuries.

Your day begins with a visit to a prestigious winery, which may include a Grand Cru estate. Here, you will be introduced to the secrets of winemaking on the Right Bank. Your expert guide, often a trained sommelier, will lead you through the technical facilities and the atmospheric aging cellars. You will learn about the careful cultivation of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes and how the specific soil conditions contribute to the elegance and power of the final product. This first stop includes a tutored tasting session designed to sharpen your palate and help you identify the subtle notes of red fruits and earthiness that define the local appellation.

The tour continues into the medieval heart of Saint-Émilion itself. You will enjoy a guided walking tour through its steep, narrow cobblestone streets, discovering Romanesque churches, ancient ruins, and hidden corners that tell the story of this 5th-century village. Your guide will share the history of the monk Émilion and the town’s evolution into a global wine capital. This stroll provides a beautiful cultural context to the wines you are sampling, allowing you to see how the heritage of the region is literally built into the stone.

The highlight of the afternoon is a second visit to a family-owned winery. This visit offers a more personal perspective on the life of a winemaker in Bordeaux. You will be welcomed for an additional wine tasting, which is expertly paired with a traditional French aperitif. Savor local delicacies such as artisanal cheeses, charcuterie, and regional specialties while enjoying a final glass of wine in a relaxed setting. These pairings are designed to demonstrate the “French art of living” and show how the local produce perfectly complements the structured tannins of Saint-Émilion reds.

A wonderful day out enjoying wine and tasty treats in the historic village of St Emilion. Our guide Alex was full of enthusiasm and being a sommelier himself, he was the ideal tour guide for this trip. The village was fun to explore – but watch those cobblestones, they can be slippery. A beautiful day enjoying some fabulous wine. You can’t go wrong.

Loved our guide. Laura was so incredible. What a fantastic guide. Friendly, informative, engaging and didn’t bombard us with too much info. Well paced, planned and thought out tour. Highly recommend this one. We waited outside the tourist info office and a stroppy lady turned up shouting for her participants on her trip. So glad we’re were not in that large group being treated like cattle. This was 8 people, treated like people and some great wines to boot! Well done.

Ben is an excellent tour guide, welcoming and quite knowledgeable about the area of Bordeaux. He is a hidden gem, very accommodating and enjoyable to talk to. Highlight of the tour was touring Bordeaux around the country roads on the way to St.Emellion and of course also drinking delicious wine.

We LOVED Ben, and so appreciated talking with him, sharing France and US stories, information and music. St Emillion was perfect, and enjoyed our wine tours. He spoke impeccable English, and had to translate every few sentences to our Spanish travelers as well. His information on wine and the area was perfect. The only reason for four stars is the van was tight for 8 of us on a long trip.
