Experience a premier Heraklion wine tasting at Douloufakis Winery. Tour the cellars, walk the vines, and sip six exceptional estate wines
The Tour

The island of Crete is a land deeply rooted in viticultural history, boasting centuries of unbroken winemaking traditions that shape its vibrant modern identity. Nestled within the historic, sun-blessed village of Dafnes just a short drive from the bustling center of Heraklion Town, a captivating Heraklion wine tasting experience awaits at Douloufakis Winery. This fourth-generation family estate serves as a bridge between age-old Cretan heritages and innovative modern viticulture, opening its gates to wine lovers seeking an authentic, intimate encounter with local terroir. Visitors are invited to step away from the traditional tourist hubs and plunge directly into a dedicated, sensory exploration of the island’s unique agricultural treasures.
The journey begins with an insightful guided tour through the production facilities, where the delicate art of Cretan winemaking is unveiled from grape to glass. Guests gain direct insight into how the estate harmonizes heritage with progress, exploring diverse vinification methods that range from ancient clay amphorae aging to meticulous modern barrel fermentation. Following this technical introduction, the experience transitions seamlessly to the beautiful Arismari vineyard site, located a brief five-minute drive from the main facility. Here, guests can enjoy a leisurely stroll directly through the vibrant vine rows, experiencing the beautiful natural landscape and absorbing firsthand knowledge regarding the estate’s sustainable cultivation practices that keep the local soil flourishing.

The true highlight of the visit unfolds beneath the peaceful shade of a traditional outdoor pergola, offering sweeping, panoramic views across the rolling, sun-drenched vineyards. Placed in this picture-perfect setting, participants indulge in a curated flight of six distinctive estate-crafted wines that beautifully represent the rich potential of the region. The tasting proudly shines a spotlight on celebrated indigenous Cretan varieties, notably the elegant, aromatic Vidiano and the deeply expressive, ruby-hued Liatiko. These hyper-local selections are presented alongside meticulously crafted international varieties, illustrating the incredible diversity of the estate’s portfolio and providing a well-rounded portrait of Cretan viticulture.
To ensure a perfectly balanced gastronomic experience, each distinctive pour is paired with a thoughtful selection of traditional, locally sourced accompaniments. Guests can savor authentic Cretan cheeses and crispy local rusks, which serve to elevate the complex tasting profiles of both the white and red wines. Led throughout by a highly passionate, knowledgeable local guide, this immersive outdoor tasting seamlessly fuses education, heartfelt family hospitality, and regional flavors, leaving a lasting impression of Crete’s profound winemaking legacy.

a year agoAmazing award winning winery. We decided to visit having bought some of their wines from Maltby & Greek in the UK, and coincidentally we happened to be on a cruise stopping in Heraklion, Crete. It was less than 30 minutes in a taxi. We arrived with the family and received an extremely friendly welcome from the host Georgios. We had a tour of the wine making process, and one of the vineyards, followed by wine tasting in the vineyard. Douloufakis produce an excellent range of wines, using different varieties of grape and in different styles. I highly recommend a visit to learn more and explore the different aromas and tastes.

10 months agoWe had a fantastic experience at Douloufakis Winery on the “Arismari” Vineyard Tour & Wine Tasting. The tour was informative, relaxed, and beautifully organized. We learned a lot about the winemaking process, the history of the estate, and the local grape varieties — all shared with passion and deep knowledge. The setting was stunning, surrounded by vineyards and Cretan hills, and the tasting itself was a real highlight. We sampled a lovely variety of wines, all well explained, paired with small bites that complemented the flavors perfectly. Everyone at the winery was welcoming and professional — they created a warm and authentic experience that never felt rushed or overly commercial. This was one of the best wine tastings we’ve done, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Crete and looking to explore Cretan wines in an intimate, high-quality setting.
