Bordeaux: Saint-Emilion and Medoc Full-Day Wine Experience

About the Tour

Embark on the ultimate vinous journey through France’s most celebrated vineyards with a Bordeaux Saint-Émilion and Médoc full-day wine tour. This immersive excursion is expertly designed to showcase the striking contrasts between the Right Bank and the Left Bank, offering a comprehensive look at the diverse terroirs that make Bordeaux the wine capital of the world. By visiting both prestigious regions in a single day, you gain a unique perspective on the history, architecture, and winemaking philosophies that define these legendary appellations.

The morning typically begins with a visit to the historic Right Bank. You will explore the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its golden stone buildings and steep, narrow streets. Your expert guide will lead you on a walking tour to discover the town’s historical monuments before heading to a local château. Here, you will delve into the world of Merlot-dominant blends, learning about the limestone-rich soils that give these wines their velvet-like texture and elegance. A highlight of the morning is a refined picnic lunch served at a château, where you can savor local specialties and Basque country charcuterie paired perfectly with the estate’s own wine.

In the afternoon, the landscape shifts as you cross over to the Médoc on the Left Bank. The drive along the famous Castle Road (Route des Châteaux) reveals a parade of grand estates and neoclassical architecture. You will stop for a photo opportunity at the iconic Château Margaux, one of the most famous wine labels on the planet. The tour includes visits to two additional wineries, including a family-run estate in the Margaux appellation and a prestigious Classified Growth château from the 1855 classification. This allows you to compare the traditional methods of smaller producers with the grand-scale operations of the region’s elite estates.

Throughout the day, you will participate in commented tasting sessions totaling approximately eight different wines. Guided by a wine expert, you will learn to identify the structural differences between the powerful, Cabernet Sauvignon-led reds of the Médoc and the softer, fruitier profiles of Saint-Émilion. Traveling in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan with a maximum of eight participants ensures an intimate experience where all your questions can be answered. This full-day odyssey is more than just a tasting; it is a deep dive into the French art of living, providing memories and knowledge that will last a lifetime.

We really enjoyed our wine tasting trip to the beautiful villages of St Emilion & Margaux. Our guide Margot was excellent, really informative, happy to answer our questions & made sure we all had a fantastic experience. It was a gift for my husband’s birthday and was a really special day. Highly recommend

Our guide Xavier was excellent – very personable and accomodating, full of information. Time in St Emillion was great, as was the 3 vineyards. Xavier had the vineyards adapt their presentations to avoid repeating the same basic information which was appreciated. 8 people in the “minivan” is a little cosy, but very manageable. A great day trip while in Bordeaux.
