The Château du Clos Lucé is a charming and historically significant château located in the heart of Amboise, a town in the Loire Valley, France. Its primary claim to fame is that it was the last residence of Leonardo da Vinci.
King Francis I of France invited Leonardo da Vinci to France in 1516, offering him the Clos Lucé as his residence. Leonardo lived and worked there for the last three years of his life, from 1516 until his death in 1519. He brought with him some of his most famous works, including the Mona Lisa, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Anne. The château itself is a beautiful Renaissance dwelling with a pink brick facade. Inside, rooms have been meticulously restored and furnished to evoke the atmosphere of Leonardo’s time. You can explore his bedroom, his workshop, the kitchen, and other living spaces, providing a glimpse into his daily life.
