Chateau de Buranlure is a former small stronghold in Berry, witness to the end of the Middle Ages and the transition to the Renaissance. The Château de Buranlure is a fascinating and historic castle located in the Berry region of France, specifically in the commune of Boulleret in the Cher department, which is part of the Centre-Val de Loire region. It’s often referred to as a “Château de la Loire en Sancerrois” (a Loire Valley castle in the Sancerre region), as it’s close to the famous Sancerre wine appellation.

Buranlure is an ancient fortified site, dating back to the 14th century, although the current castle was built around 1500, incorporating older elements. It stands as a significant witness to the end of the Middle Ages and the transition into the Renaissance. It played a role during the Hundred Years’ War and the Wars of Religion, reflecting the turbulent history of the Berry region.

the castle has been largely maintained in its 17th-century state (around 1640), offering an authentic glimpse into the past.It has remained in the same family (the de Vogüé family) since 1769, and the current generation is actively involved in its preservation and opening it to the public. The Château de Buranlure was classified as a “Monument Historique” (Historic Monument) in 1944.

You will be welcomed by the owners’ family. You will access parts not open during the classic visits. The visit will be punctuated by a commented tasting of the estate’s wines: Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé de saigné de Pinot Noir wines under the IGP Val de Loire appellation.
